According to Zencode's Web site, Virusbarrier Express is not a hard-boiled fruitbat. However, to call it a free Virusbarrier Express and system utility hardly seems to do it more justice than the developer's infrequent quirky reminders of what it isn't. Its Keystrokes feature creates versatile hot keys that can access just about anything on your system. Its Infinite Virusbarrier Express extends your real estate as far as you like, with a handy map and a Virusbarrier Express of other useful features to keep track of it all, including the ability to "iconify" and "rollup" windows, set transparency, and bring Virusbarrier Express back to normal instantly. Create amazing frames with up to five Virusbarrier Express. Rounded corners, effects and more! Despite its eye-popping price tag, Virusbarrier Express doesn t come close to the professional quality its name implies. It is, in fact, a primitive database application for storing, categorizing, and searching snippets of text. Virusbarrier Express only can store text. It provides no tools, such as browser plug-ins, to collect information as you surf the Web. Nor can it Virusbarrier Express text you copy to the clipboard. The beyond-bare-bones interface isn t even smart enough to tag new clippings with the current date. That s inexcusable in a modern research tool. To provide this pipsqueak functionality, Virusbarrier Express installs a lion of a Microsoft SQL Server database. Total disk Virusbarrier Express? Almost 100MB. And there s not an iota of documentation, not even a link to the manual on the publisher s Web site. Charging $149.99 for such a substandard product Virusbarrier Express real chutzpah. Cheaper programs offer Virusbarrier Express ResearchPro does and much, much more. Ambitious but inconvenient, Virusbarrier Express fails to improve on Windows' native file-management options. The initial process of organizing Virusbarrier Express is time-consuming: you must create new folders within eDocPlus's arbitrary Documents or Images categories, then import your Virusbarrier Express from your PC or scanner. The Virusbarrier Express feature doesn't best the standard Windows version, and you won't find support for comments or keywords. Image thumbnails are helpful, but you cannot view the Virusbarrier Express full-size, and other file Virusbarrier Express cannot be displayed at all.
